Zoom Lens For Canon Camera

Sandy asks…Which camera should I get and what special effects program?I am wanting to make short films and upload them to YouTube. I currently have a Sony Vixia HD camera but am not sure if the quality is decent enough to get 1080p. I am also looking for a special effects program, from what I've seen HitFilm and Adobe Aftereffects seem to be the most popular. I'm leaning more towards HitFilm right now.
