Lens For Canon Rebel Xs

Mandy asks…What kind of lens should I get for my Rebel XS?I've had a Canon Rebel XS for 2 years. I have the 18-55mm lens and a telephoto that is 55-225. The majority of photos I take are for my high school yearbook and newspaper. I was looking to invest in a new lens and filters (for mainly portrait style photos) to better my photography.
