I own a Rebel XS and recommend the lens I just bought - the Canon 28-200. Not only is it versatile because it's wide with a pretty reach but it sports a very tough build, quick, sharp, accurate focus and it's a joy to use.
Look at this shot. Look closely at his eyes and you'll see why I say sharp, accurate
