Macro Lens For Canon Camera

Mary asks…How to take beautiful macro shots of the human eye?I want to know because soon I'll be purchasing a Canon Rebel T2i/T3i and I especially love eyes. I find them one of the most wonderful things to photograph. Many shapes and colours and they can display emotion like no other. Back to the point, I know I'll need a good macro lens, but as far as that, what about the lighting? Would I use flash?
